- Abstract:
The article reports that Colombia is suffering an economic hangover from the three booms in coffee, marijuana and cocaine that filled the central bank's coffers with nearly $6-billion in foreign exchange. Coffee prices are now less than half of their late 1970s peak and cocaine sells for about one-quarter of its 1981 peak. The country's foreign exchange reserves have also dipped to around $1.5 billion. INSET: WHY COLOMBIA FINALLY CRACKED DOWN ON ITS DRUG DONS.
