      The objective was to describe the strategic management of human talent in the Ecuadorian healthcare sector. The contributions of Salazar and Panca (2018), Ramírez and Ampudia (2018), Ramírez, Espíndola and Ruiz (2019), and, Cejas, Vásquez and Chirinos (2017) were used. The research was descriptive with a documentary design; a category matrix was designed as a data recording instrument. The results show that human talent is an essential resource in health institutions; therefore its proper management is key to optimal performance and achievement of goals in the healthcare system.       El objetivo fue describir la gestión estratégica del talento humano en el sector salud de Ecuador. Se utilizaron los aportes de Salazar y Panca (2018), Ramírez y Ampudia (2018), Ramírez, Espíndola y Ruiz (2019), y, Cejas, Vásquez y Chirinos (2017). La investigación fue de tipo descriptiva con diseño documental; se diseñó una matriz de categorías como instrumento de registro de los datos. Los resultados demuestran que el talento humano constituye un recurso esencial en las instituciones de salud; por ello su adecuada gestión es clave para el óptimo desempeño y logro de metas en el sistema de salud.
