Una celestial medicina. La Virgen de Chiquinquirá y las pestes de 1587 y 1633 en Tunja (Estudios)

On the basis of descriptions from chroniclers and archives, the present article examines the pilgrimages between Chiquinquirá and Tunja during the plagues of 1587 and 1633, a blend of popular piety and faith in the heavenly medicine by both indigenous peoples and Spaniards. It also reviews the iconography of this peculiar type of painting, its relationship with the Friars Preachers (Dominican Order), and the traces it left in the town of Tunja such as the shrine rendering tribute to her. ; A partir de las descripciones de cronistas y fuentes de archivo, este artículo analiza las romerías entre Chiquinquirá y Tunja durante las pestes de 1587 y 1633, mezcla de devoción popular y fe en la celestial medicina por parte de indígenas y españoles. Igualmente, analiza la iconografía de esta peculiar pintura, su relación con la Orden de Predicadores y las huellas que dejó en la ciudad de Tunja como la ermita dedicada en su honor.
