RESUMEN La Iglesia Católica interpela los signos de los tiempos, se compromete con la justicia social, la paz y la opción preferencial por los pobres, desde la fe y la asunción de valores cristianos en un mundo secularizado. Este trabajo reflexiona acerca de la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia y sus contribuciones a la comprensión de los problemas de la contemporaneidad, puestos al desnudo en la pandemia del Covid-19. Desde la filosofía ilustrada y marxista de Habermas y el liberalismo de Rawls, a través de los acuerdos de paz del gobierno del presidente Santos (Colombia) y la acción pastoral de Monseñor Romero (El Salvador). ABSTRACT The Catholic Church challenges the signs of the times, commits itself to social justice, peace and preferential options for the poor, based on faith and the assumption of Christian values in a secularized world. This work reflects the Social Doctrine of the Church and its contributions to the understanding of contemporary problems, exposed in the Covid-19 pandemic. From the enlightened and Marxist philosophy of Habermas and the liberalism of Rawls, through the peace agreements of the government of President Santos (Colombia) and the pastoral action of Monsignor Romero (El Salvador).
