    • Abstract:
The article presents information on a study conducted on the health effects of mercury air pollution. In the study, Marcello Veiga, associate professor at the University of British Columbia, studied air quality after the buring of amalgam by miners for artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM). According to the United Nations Environment Programme, ASGM is the world's second greatest source of atmospheric mercury pollution after coal combustion.
