- Abstract:
The author introduces a comprehensive protocol for shunt infection prevention based on the principles of Segregation of Duties and Zoning Control. By implementing this personal standardized protocol, the author has maintained a zero-infection rate in shunt surgeries over an eight-year period since 2016. A Timeout Segment is employed to divide the shunt surgery into a preparation stage and an implantation stage, ensuring that high-risk infection factors remain independent in each stage, thus preventing cross-contamination. Additionally, the protocol integrates various anti-infective measures, particularly the non-contact technique for the ventricular catheter and the topical application of vancomycin powder, forming a reliable comprehensive protocol for shunt infection prevention. This approach effectively cuts off transmission pathways and controls infection sources, thereby achieving the goal of preventing shunt infections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
