    • Abstract:
The aim for this study is to investigate which typographic solutions are considered dyslexia-friendly and how these are applied in printed materials. The study is based on an inclusive design perspective as well as theories of gestalt principles of perception and color theory. A mixed-methods approach consisting of a literature review, a typographic analysis of six easy-to-read books, and an established style guide was used. The result shows that sans serif typefaces, larger font sizes (at least 12-14 pt), increased letter and word spacing, line spacing of 1.4-1.5, and softer contrast improves readability. However, the analysis reveals that practical application rarely follows these recommendations, especially in the literature for adults. The study identifies a difference between theory and practice and emphasizes a need for conscious design choices to increase inclusion. The results from the study sets the foundation for the design project Scriptura magazine.
