      The objective of the study was to understand the social role of the family in the academic performance of students in the early years of elementary school and to recognize the elements present in the family and school that enable good academic performance. The searches were conducted in the databases of Google Scholar, the Scientific Electronic Library Online and the CAPES Periodicals Portal, using the keywords: family, school and academic performance. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six articles were analyzed. The results revealed that when the family participates in the school, students feel more motivated to learn, develop self-concepts that are favorable to learning and value the school and the teacher more. The elements identified in the family for good academic performance were acceptance, affection and good parental relationships; in the school, clear communication and overcoming the blame of the family for learning difficulties stood out. ; O objetivo do estudo foi compreender o papel social da família no desempenho escolar dos estudantes dos Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental e reconhecer os elementos presentes na família e na escola que possibilitam um bom desempenho escolar. As buscas foram realizadas nas bases do Google Acadêmico, do Scientific Electronic Library Online e no Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, usando as palavras-chave: família, escola e desempenho escolar. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão foram analisados seis artigos. Os resultados revelaram que quando a família participa da escola, os estudantes se sentem mais motivados para aprender, desenvolvem autoconceitos favoráveis à aprendizagem e valorizam mais a escola e o professor. Os elementos identificados na família para um bom desempenho escolar foram o acolhimento, o afeto e o bom relacionamento parental; já na escola destaca-se a comunicação clara e a superação da culpabilização da família pelas dificuldades de aprendizagem.
