    • Abstract:
The present work reveals the experimental observation of fascinating exciton and electron interactions between cesium lead halide (CsPbX 3 (X= I, Br)) perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) and nitro-explosives (such as PETN, RDX, TNT, DNT, and NT). The weakly bound Pb–I and weak electronegativity of iodine as compared to the bromine counterpart in CsPbI 3 strongly interact with the nitro-group of the explosives accompanied by the visually striking color change in the excitonic emission, observable with the naked eye. The interaction leads to the progressive blue shifting in the fluorescence emission and formation of nonemitting dark states with increasing nitro-explosive concentration. In contrast, CsPbBr 3 exhibits weak fluorescence quenching with red-shifting in the fluorescence peak as the explosive concentration increases. Further, the mix-halide perovskites CsPb(I/Br) 3 exhibit dynamic wide-band color transitions from orange to green with rapid quenching of the emission behavior. These unique photophysical properties underline the remarkable potential of CsPbX 3 (X = I, Br) perovskites as sensitive and visually distinct fluorescence markers for nitro-explosive detection.
