- Abstract:
A study was done to discover the effects social exclusion from ingroup and outgroup members can have on the aggression and prosocial behavior of Middle Eastern Americans. To measure aggression the word completion task was used and to measure prosocial behavior the prisoners dilemma game was used in the study. The hypotheses of this study were not upheld by the results proving when comparing social exclusion from ingroup and outgroup members does not have significant effects on aggression and prosocial behavior. It was also not held true that ingroup member would show more implicit aggression and less prosocial behavior. After conducting an independent samples t-test the results did not show a significant difference between all three of the groups’ implicit aggression. The two way chi-square results also did not show significant difference in the ingroup, outgroup, and control decision on prosocial behavior. Because the findings are not in favor of the hypotheses it stands to reason that being excluded from either an ingroup member or an outgroup member does not significantly affect implicit aggression or prosocial behavior in Middle Eastern Americans. ; Honors thesis research directed by the Department of Psychology. ; (B.A.) -- Towson University, 2019.
