- Abstract:
The article describes the phenotypic analysis of bacterial virulence using electric cell-substrate impedance sensing (ECIS). Topics discussed are the damage of host cells by bacterial pathogens as an estimate of virulence, methods for evaluating cell damage via microscopy such as chromogenic and fluorescent staining, significance of ECIS as a means of monitoring cell damage, and use of ECIS in clinical microbiology laboratories to identify pathogen and its antimicrobial resistance properties.
