  • Additional Information
    • Alternate Title:
The incidence of the Covid-19 pandemic on the living conditions of Venezuelan migrants to Colombia and the aporophobic discourse. (English)
    • Subject Terms:
    • Abstract:
This article aims to verify that the Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced discriminatory attitudes and social rejection by a significant part of the Colombian population towards low-income Venezuelan migrants and has contributed to the implementation by the Colombian government of a migration policy that (i) has abruptly stopped the flow of this segment of the migrant population into Colombia, (ii) has further restricted their access to services and fundamental rights in Colombian territory; and (iii) has contributed to the development of an aporophobic discourse in the country. The conceptual reference to address this hypothesis is the term aporophobia. A term whose longevity is not very wide, but which allows to frame the matrix of understanding of this phenomenon with sufficiency. The methodology chosen to operationalize this research is based on the quantifiable qualitative method in which the data collected by other sources are used by the authors to interpret the behavior of the object of study. • Abstract:
