- Abstract:
Dozens of state lawmakers are urging Governor Kathy Hochul to stop supporting Mayor Eric Adams' attempt to roll back the city's right-to-shelter mandate. The lawmakers argue that this legal effort could result in more people sleeping on the streets. The letter, co-signed by 47 Democratic state senators and Assembly members, was organized by the Coalition for the Homeless. The governor's position on the right-to-shelter is important because the mandate is based on the state constitution. Some advocates are calling for expanding the mandate across New York state.
