- Abstract:
Childhood and early puberty have been shown to be key points for learning healthy habits. Recent data suggest that this is the period when inactive children become predisposed to negative health consequences later in life, including overweight, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The advantages of FA for the age group 18-64 years and after the age of 65 have been proven. Objective: To study FA and sport among adolescents (11-14 years old) and their parents in the city of Plovdiv. Material and methods: The study included regular students aged 11-14 years, 275 children and their parents, a total of 550 people. Statistical and sociological methods have been used for data processing. Presentation: The results have found that 108 (39.3%) of the respondents do not play extra sports outside of school, with a greater proportion of youth playing sports in their free time being boys 101 (70.1%) compared to girls 66 (50.4%) playing extra sports outside of school. No statistical relationship has been found between gender and desire for sports (χ2 = 5.269; df = 4; p = 0.261). At the time of the survey, only 50 (18.2%) of parents played sports in their free time. Conclusion: A greater proportion of adolescents do not play sports in their free time, and most of them are girls. The personal example of the parents is the leading factor in encouraging the practice of FA and sports, but in a greater part of the families of adolescents there are no parents who play sport.
