    • Abstract:
This reflection examines the integration of Human Resource Development (HRD) principles in professional development (PD) for adult ESL instructors, drawing on the author's qualitative dissertation research findings. The study explores the complex factors that influence instructor growth and effectiveness, emphasizing the role of instructor characteristics, PD intervention design, work environment, and transfer outcomes. By applying the Training Transfer Model, this reflection highlights the need for PD programs that are contextually relevant, adaptable, and responsive to the diverse needs of adult ESL educators. Key findings from the research reveal that instructors' prior teaching experiences, the content relevance of PD, and organizational support significantly impact the transfer of training to classroom practice. Additionally, the critical role of leadership in creating supportive environments for continuous instructor development is discussed. This reflection advocates for ongoing, differentiated PD programs that foster collaboration, enhance transfer, and ultimately improve the quality of instruction in adult ESL education.
