- Abstract:
The article discusses the testimony of scientists as the basis of the decision making of the legislative body of the government. The legislators expect the scientists to testify as scientists to act not as an interest group but as disinterested experts for it will affect their testimony. Traditionally, those who need the service of professionals but are unable to judge the disinterested nature of their advice are protected by the professional code of ethics. But in situations such as giving testimony, when the scientist becomes in effect, the scientist is guided by no similarly organized professional code of ethics.
