      The article looks at Nevada state chancellor James E. Rogers. After a feud with a regent, James Dean Leavitt, who had accused the chancellor of exceeding his authority in hiring decision, Rogers abruptly resigned from his post. Rogers way coaxed to return to his position a day later. In the wake of the flare-up, several regents have called on the board to more clearly delineate the chancellor's role and to reassert its oversight authority. The article states that the incident could also bring about greater scrutiny of the Board of Regents and may revive efforts to make the panel an appointed, rather than an elected, board.
