The article reports that on March 1, 2008, Columbia's U.S.-backed military went into Ecuador and killed up to 24 guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC), including a FARC leader, Raúl Reyes. The article describes the military and diplomatic response of Ecuador and neighboring country Venezuela. Columbian officials charged FARC with building radioactive dirty bombs. Venezuelan President Hugo Chaváz accused the U.S. of attempting to start a regional conflict.
