    • Abstract:
The article reports on the rage over the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee's (RAC) permission of scientists to experiment with genetically modified bacteria and plants outside the laboratory. Environmental groups, led by Jeremy Rifkin, filed suit in Washington D.C. District Court to ban such experiments until determination of risks. The suit charges RAC of "grossly negligent" by allowing the planned release of genetically engineered life forms.
