The article discusses zoos and the challenge of deciding whether to keep the animals the public most wants to see or saving threatened species. Topics include the author's photography initiative to document biodiversity, called Photo Ark, the artificial insemination (AI) of a Sumatran rhino at the Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife at Ohio's Cincinnati Zoo, named Suci, and zoos as the last refuge against extinction.
