Abstract: Hızla değişen eğitim sistemleri ile birlikte, öğrencilerin ne kadar bilgiye sahip olduğunun yanı sıra bir problem karşısında bu bilgileri nasıl kullandıkları önem kazanmaya başladı. Bir problem karşısında farklı disiplinlerden yararlanarak çözüm üretebilmek ve çözüm bulma sürecinde 21. yüzyıl becerilerini geliştirmeyi hedefleyen STEM eğitim modeli ortaya çıkmıştır. Bilim (Science), Teknoloji (Technology), Mühendislik (Engineering) ve Matematik (Mathematics) disiplinlerinin baş harflerinden oluşturulan STEM eğitim modeli günümüzün popüler eğitim modeli haline geldi. Son zamanlarda özellikle fen alanındaki eğitiminde geleneksel ders anlatım sisteminden uzaklaşarak fen dersindeki kavramları günlük hayattan örneklerle somutlaştırmak için STEM eğitim modeli tercih edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, STEM etkinliklerinin 5. Sınıf seviyesindeki öğrencilerin sorgulama, problem çözme becerileri ile fen bilimleri dersine yönelik motivasyonlarına olan etkisi incelenmiştir. Nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan ön test/son test eşitlenmemiş kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında İstanbul’a bağlı Üsküdar ilçesindeki özel bir ortaokulda öğrenim görmekte olan 44 5. Sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak sorgulama becerileri ölçeği, problem çözme envanteri ve fen öğrenmeye yönelim ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanınuygulama bölümü 5 haftalık süreçte tamamlanmıştır. Süreç sonucunda elde edilen nicel veriler SPSS 20 paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda 5. Sınıf öğrencilerinin STEM etkinlikleri ile birlikte sorgulama ve problem çözme becerilerinin yanı sıra fen dersine yönelik motivasyonlarında da anlamlı bir fark saptanmıştır.Anahtar kelimeler: STEM etkinlikleri, sorgulama, problem çözme, motivasyon
With the rapidly changing education systems, besides how much students have knowledge, how they could use this information in the face of a problem started to gain importance. In the face of a problem, STEM education model, which aims to produce solutions by using different disciplines and to develop 21st century skills in the process of finding solutions, has emerged. The STEM education model, formed from the initials of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, has become the popular education model of today. Recently, STEM education model has been preferred life in order to embody the concepts in science lesson with examples from daily life by moving away from the traditional lecture system in science education. In this study, the effects of STEM activities on 5th grade level students' questioning, problem solving skills and motivation for science lesson were investigated.Pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was preferred. The study group of the research consists of 44 5th grade students studying in a private secondary school in Üsküdar district of İstanbul in the 2019-2020 academic year. Questioning skills scale, problem solving inventory and the scale of orientation to science learning were used as data collection tools. The practice part of the research was completed in 5 weeks. As a result of the process, the quantitative data gathered were analyzed with the SPSS 20 package program. As a result ofthe research, a significant difference was found in 5th grade students' motivation for science lesson as well as their inquiry and problem solving skills along with their STEM activities.Key words: STEM activities, inquiry, problem solving, motivation
