Abstract: Introduction: complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and acupuncture are increasingly used by patients who find multiple benefits in them. This use is most often done without the knowledge of their practitioner, thus creating a parallel course of care where the practitioner can no longer play his role. This work was carried out to understand the origin of this phenomenon. Objective: to explore the representations of CAM and acupuncture from general practitioners in the region of Provences-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Results : In this prospective qualitative study based on grounded theory, 13 semi-structured individual interviews were conducted. Doctors showed favorable quasi-homogeneous representations of CAMs and reported their knowledge of an unfavorable opinion from certain colleagues. They considered the CAM, as a prescription of conventional care falling within a therapeutic approach carried out for the benefit of the patient. Despite this favorable opinion, they expressed a difficulty in integrating them into the healthcare. This integration is hampered by a lack of knowledge about techniques, their benefits and risks, the practitioners who exercise them. There was also the ambivalence of doctors between knowledge and belief. Conclusion: in practice, the scientific knowledge conditions most doctors in decision-making. As a result, 2 groups stand out : the impervious, and favorable to CAMs. The first favor the parallel course of care. For the others, there are various parameters hindering their integration : lack of knowledge, ambivalence between the benefits and the risks and the need for proof. ; Introduction : les médecines complémentaires et alternatives (MAC) et l’acupuncture sont de plus en plus utilisées par les patients qui y trouvent des bénéfices multiples.
