    • Abstract:
      The present study examines the portrayal of gender and sexuality within the academic setting, with a specific focus on the perceptions held by students and educators on this portrayal within the school environment. The study was conducted in a public school located in the city of Imperatriz, Maranhão. The objective is threefold: firstly, to understand how gender violence and sexuality are represented in a public school, and secondly, to consider the perceptions of both students and teachers on these matters. The theoretical underpinnings of the research are rooted in the contributions of prominent scholars, including Durkheim (2008), Butler (2022), Bento (2017), Foucault (2014), Louro (2014), and Libâneo (2013), among others. This qualitative study employed two data collection instruments: focus groups with students and semi-structured interviews with teachers. The data collected revealed that students' perceived representations of gender and sexuality violence at the institution under study were influenced by the prevailing social environment, resulting in a naturalized reproduction owing to the absence of discourse on the subject within the school setting. Consequently, teachers' performance in addressing issues related to prejudice and discrimination is hindered by the prevailing discourse of power within the school environment. This discourse is characterized by the naturalization of gender-based violence and a lack of open discussion on the subject. ; O estudo aborda a representação de gênero e sexualidade no meio escolar, focando na percepção do/a estudante e da/o professora/o analisando como estudantes e docentes as percebem e interpretam.
