Abstract: The close relation between journalistic practices and other social practices implies the need of a critical analysis on the impacts of journalism in its different manifestations. On the one hand, there is the dominant journalism, which manages the structure of the current public thinking. Although it dictates information according to specific interests (Soares, 2006), dominant journalism claims to be neutral and impartial. On the other hand, alternative journalism, such as union, community, and independent, promotes social transformation and adopts positioned bias. This article aims to analyze the discourse in eight community newspapers and three independent newspapers in the city of Florianópolis/SC to identify to what extent they are close or distant from the dominant journalism model, considered from the discourse of NSC Communication. Thus, the discussion is based on the theoretical-methodological approach of Critical Genre Analysis from Bonini (2013; 2017). Results suggest different degrees of convergence/divergence concerning the precepts of the dominant journalism in the community and independent newspapers analyzed. ; La presencia masiva del periodismo en las prácticas sociales implica la necesidad de analizar sus impactos y un debate crÃtico sobre las diferentes prácticas periodÃsticas.
