Su objetivo es familiarizar al lector con los estudios historiográficos y politológicos sobre la participación política, a la par que sugiere cauces interpretativos para pensar el futuro de las democracias representativas del siglo XXI. ; This Paper is a review of the historical development of the concept of political participation. It will explore the evolution of this category from pre-modern times to the advent of the digital revolution, assessing its impact on the systems of legitimacy, mobilisation strategies and legal axioms that have dominated each era. It aims to familiarise the reader with historiographical and political science studies on political participation, while suggesting interpretative channels for thinking about the future of representative democracies in the 21st century.
