Espinosa e Blyenbergh: entre a semântica da amizade e a semântica do mal ; Spinoza and Blyenbergh: between the semantics of friendship and the one of evil

Born as a promising beginning of a friendship formed between two lovers of truth, the correspondence between Spinoza and Blyenbergh turned out to be a real disappointment. Because they knew the truth through different paths, in the languages of Spinoza and Blyenbergh, the words God and evil, which underpin the entire problem of the correspondence, could only mean completely different things. Although both agreed that God is supremely perfect and the cause of all things, Blyenbergh conceived that men and women could go against God, saddening him to the point of punishing them for it, Spinoza, on the other hand, understood that God is nothing but absolute perfection. While one conceived evil as a deprivation of good, for the other, it is nothingness. For this reason, Spinoza and Blyenbergh could never communicate with each other using the language of philosophers, a necessary condition for uniting themselves for the love of truth. ; Nascida como um promissor início de amizade entre dois amantes da verdade, a correspondência entre Espinosa e Blyenbergh revelou-se uma verdadeira desilusão. Por conhecerem a verdade por caminhos diversos, nas línguas de Espinosa e de Blyenbergh, as palavras Deus e mal, que sustentam toda a problemática da correspondência, só poderiam significar coisas completamente diferentes. Apesar de ambos concordarem que Deus é sumamente perfeito e a causa de todas as coisas, enquanto um concebia que homens e mulheres poderiam contrariá-lo, entristecendo-o a ponto de puni-los por isso, o outro compreendia que Deus não é senão perfeição absoluta. Enquanto um concebia o mal como uma privação do bem, para o outro, ele nada é. Por isso mesmo, Espinosa e Blyenbergh jamais poderiam comunicar-se entre si pela linguagem dos filósofos, condição necessária para unirem-se pelo amor à verdade.
