      Although it is among the concepts frequently used in tourism research, the concept and perception of tourism is understood in various ways. Tourists form perceptions around destinations, and these perceptions carry tremendous influence when considering one's future travel plans. It is important to realize the power of these perceptions for the development of the tourism industry. Phenomenology is a convenient method to address and understand the rich definitions and perceptions of tourists. The purpose of this study, which uses the Phenomenology pattern as the basic methodological framework, which enables the recognition of the different ways a person can see the world, is to find the basis of the tourism perspective of the local people living in the two tourism regions of Turkey and Iran, with the method of descriptive analysis. In the interviews, phenomenological questions were created, 100 participants were selected from Turkey and 100 participants from Iran by criterion sampling method, and the participants were asked 'What are the first five concepts that come to mind when you say tourism'? and 'Tourism is like.' were asked. The metaphors collected after the interviews were grouped under 7 categories. In line with the categories, it has been concluded that the local people of both countries perceive tourism mainly as economical, remember it with its natural elements, and think in a societal and social relationship. ; Turizm araştırmalarında sıkça kullanılan kavramlar arasında yer almasına rağmen turizm kavramı ve algısı, çeşitli şekillerde anlaşılmaktadır. Turistler, destinasyonlar etrafında algılar oluşturur ve bu algılar, kişinin gelecekteki seyahat planlarını düşünürken muazzam bir etki taşır. Turizm endüstrisinin gelişimi için bu algıların gücünün farkına varılması önem arz etmektedir.
