Turning Painting into an Essential Home – Four Artists between two Worlds ; Fazendo da pintura a morada essencial – quatro artistas entre dois mundos

In the thirties and forties of the 20thcentury many Jewish painters, sculptors, graphic artists, illustrators and engravers fled the Nazi persecutions to Brazil. The majority of them was influenced by the multiple modernistic repertories e movements in Europe. By their activity and works they contributed to consolidate the modern art in Brazilian art which was dominated by the academic art until then. The refugees Agi Straus, Alice Brill, Gisela Eichbaum e Eleonore Koch who came to Brazil as adolescent or child made successful careers as artists. In their works of art they combined elements of their German-Jewish cultural heritage as well as aspects of the Brazilian formation and experience. ; Nos anos 30 e 40 do século 20, muitos pintores, artistas plásticos, gráficos, ilustradores, desenhistas e gravuristas judeus fugiram das perseguições nazistas para o Brasil, na sua maioria, vinham impregnados pelos múltiplos repertórios e movimentos modernistas da Europa. Com suas atuações e suas obras, contribuíram para afirmar a arte moderna na arte brasileira, até então dominada pela arte acadêmica. As refugiadas Agi Straus, Alice Brill, Gisela Eichbaum e Eleonore Koch, que chegaram ao Brasil ainda adolescentes ou crianças, fizeram uma carreira bem-sucedida como artistas no país. Em suas obras artísticas reuniram tanto elementos da sua herança cultural judaico-alemã quanto aspetos da formação e da experiência brasileira.
