Abstract: 2024年3月末で私は45年間の大学教員を終える。この間，4つの大学と1つの国際機関(JICA : 国際協力事業団)でお世話になった。総括すると，楽しさ8割，苦しさが2割である。その研究と教育の通奏低音となっているのが，地域への理解と，そこ内在する地域論理を汲み上げる地誌研究である。地域にどっぷりつかって，学生や一般の人たち，海外のむらびと，研究者，政府機関の人々と，ひざをつき合わせて，酒や食事をまじえながらこころゆくまで話すことができ，悔いはない。この論考では，私の地域研究の軌跡を，数個の連鎖・進化系列として横断的に過去の業績をできる限り網羅しながら，その背景や調査当時は気づかなかった視点をその後にどのように獲得していったかを論じる。その到達点はいまだはっきりとは定まらないが，さまざまな地域レベルでの時空間比較から収束点がおぼろげながら見えてきた。余生をその完成に捧げたいという意思表明でもある。 ; At the end of March 2024, I will finish 45 years of university teaching. During this time, I have worked at four universities and one international organization (JICA: Japan International Cooperation Agency). In sum, it has been 80% fun and 20% pain. Basso continue of my research and education is an understanding of local regions and the study of geography that draws out the inherent logic in the region. I have no regrets about my research careers. I was able to talk to my heart’s content with students, general public, overseas villagers, researchers, and government officials, knee-to-knee, over drinks and meals. In this essay, I will discuss the background and how I acquired perspectives that I was not aware of at the time of my research, while covering as much as possible of my past achievements across several chains and evolutionary lines of my area studies. The point of convergence has become dimly apparent from the spatio-temporal comparisons at various regional levels, although the point of arrival has not yet been clearly determined.
