Abstract: Fig. 1: (a) Topographic and bathymetric map of the NFM. (b) High-resolution bathymetry map of the WIM from EMODnet (2014). 2D gravity models for the NFM: Profiles I-Screech I, modified from Stanton et al. (2016); Profile II-Screech II, modified from Staton et al. (2016); Profile III-Screech III, modified from Lau et al. (2006b) and Profile IV-Line B, modified from Causer et al. (2020). The main physiographic features of the NFM, from north to south, include: Orphan Basin (OrB), Flemish Cap (FC), Flemish Pass Basin (FPB), Jeanne d’Arc Basin (JAB), Carson Basin (CaB), Horseshoe Basin (HoB), Whale Basin (WB), South Whale Basin (SWB). Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) drill holes (green circles, ODP Site 1276 and 1277 from Leg 210; Tucholke and Sibuet 2007) and exploratory wells (black circles, Osprey H-84 and Skua E-41; Wielens et al . 2006) are also indicated. 2D seismic reflection (yellow lines) and 3D seismic reflection volumes (purple rectangles) in the WIM. Refraction profiles: ISE1, Zelt et al . (2003); IAM-9, Dean et al . (2000). 2.5D gravity models presented in Amigo Marx et al . (2022), Profiles A, B, and C (grey lines). The eastern parts of the five profiles presented in this paper in the WIM (Profiles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, bold white lines) are based on 2D seismic profiles and 3D seismic reflection volumes, complemented with 2D satellite Free Air gravity profiles from Getech (2016). The western part of the sections was constructed using 2D gravity models in the absence of seismic and well data. Onshore SW Iberia, two wide-angle seismic transects (Transects A and B, thin dashed blue lines) and the normal incidence seismic profile IBERSEIS (thin purple line) provided constraints on basement properties (Palomeras et al . 2009; Simancas et al . 2003). The main physiographic features of the West Iberian Margin, from north to south, are: Galicia Interior Basin (GIB), Porto Basin (PoB), Galicia Bank (GB), Deep Galicia Margin (DGM), Lusitanian Basin (LB), Vigo Seamount (VS), Vasco da Gama Seamount (VdGS), Iberia ...
