Relações raciais e serviço social : um estudo de caso na comunidade quilombola do Cumbe

The process of formation of the Brazilian society has as one of the main elements the slave system that existed since the colonization by the Portuguese crown until 1888 with the formal liberation of the enslaved, as a justification for maintaining slavery and, even after 1888, the maintenance of the idea of the person as a subject unable to perform activities beyond manuals ones that would require physical strength, or even understand them as humanized beings, for that, theories and other fronts of action were disseminated, that conferred and confer disadvantages to black people, as a response to these questions arose various forms of resistance, the formation of quilombos being one of them. The Quilombola Community of Cumbe in Aracati - Ceará presents itself as a space of resistance to this set of actions aiming to maintain the black person at a disadvantage or any other situation that prevents its full development. This dissertation aims to analyze the relationship of racial issue and social work in order to understand their intervention in cases of territorial disputes of the Quilombola Community of Cumbe in Aracati - Ceará. From a critical perspective of reality analysis, this qualitative research was developed through two research procedures: bibliographical and documentary. We researched in newspapers, documents, websites, master’s dissertations, doctoral theses, articles and books dealing with the themes of ethnic-racial relations, social service, quilombola communities, inequality, Brazilian social formation and such. As a result of the research it was possible to identify a set of actions that interfere in the continuity of the quilombo, these actions with negative interference of the local government that demonstrates to invalidate the actions of quilombolas and their way of life, demonstrating the urgency of an intervention of professionals committed to the anti-racist struggle.
