Inclusive History Education, Historical Thinking, and Historical Consciousness

This paper discusses the research on inclusive history education with the aim of reassessing what might be formulated as a goal for history education in general and for students with special educational needs in particular. In English language research on inclusive history education, there appears to be a particular focus on the development of historical thinking in learners and, for this reason, the research has been mainly concerned with how educational interventions should be organised. Whilst this research is very valuable, it is argued here that there is a need to address what is perceived to be the aim of history teaching and a number of aims for history teaching are outlined. A view of inclusive history teaching inspired by the Gadamerian concept of historical consciousness is then proposed to broaden the scope of what we see as the goal of inclusive history teaching and to consider the different challenges that teachers and learners may face in the subject of history. ; In diesem Beitrag wird die Forschung zum inklusiven Geschichtsunterricht mit dem Ziel erörtert, neu zu bewerten, was als Ziel für den Geschichtsunterricht im Allgemeinen und insbesondere für Schüler mit sonderpädagogischem Förderbedarf formuliert werden könnte. In der englischsprachigen Forschung zum integrativen Geschichtsunterricht scheint ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf der Entwicklung des historischen Denkens bei den Lernenden zu liegen, und aus diesem Grund hat sich die Forschung hauptsächlich mit der Frage beschäftigt, wie pädagogische Interventionen organisiert werden sollten. Obwohl diese Forschung sehr wertvoll ist, wird hier argumentiert, dass es notwendig ist, sich damit auseinanderzusetzen, was als Ziel des Geschichtsunterrichts wahrgenommen wird, und es werden eine Reihe von Zielen für den Geschichtsunterricht skizziert.
