Abstract: Objective: To analyze the receptions and interpretations made in Venezuela, between 1824 and 1840, of the notions of democracy proposed by Destutt de Tracy in his Commentary on the Spirit of Laws and by Alexis de Tocqueville in Democracy in America, compared to the readings made in other Latin American countries such as Chile and Mexico. Methodology: To do so, the methodological precepts of intellectual history and contextualist political thought were taken into account, specifically in relation to the study of international receptions and translations of concepts and arguments. Originality: With this study, we seek to partially fill a gap in Venezuelan political historiography, because not enough attention has been paid to the intellectual sources of the concepts about democracy used by political actors and thinkers during the 19th century, and much less to the similarities and differences in comparison with the political discourse present in other countries during the same period. Conclusions: On this particular aspect, our work demonstrates not only the presence of the concepts formulated by de Tracy and Tocqueville in Venezuelan political thought, but also highlights the uniqueness of the readings made of these authors in Venezuela conditioned by the predominance of feelings favorable to popular governments. ; Objetivo: analizar las recepciones e interpretaciones que se hicieron en Venezuela, entre 1824 y 1840, de las nociones de democracia planteadas por Destutt de Tracy en su Comentario sobre el Espíritu de las Leyes y por Alexis de Tocqueville en La democracia en América, en comparación con las lecturas efectuadas en otros países latinoamericanos como Chile y México.
