    • Abstract:
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most disabling chronic neurological diseases. Individual perception of quality of life (QoL) is very important assessing outcomes of treatment. Regarding factors influencing patients’ QoL is possible to correct and markedly improve the life of patient. The aim is to assess the QoL in patients with multiple sclerosis. To identify correlation tendency, strength and direction of influencing factors. Methods. The study was performed using questionnaire via 36–item Short Form Health Survey SF–36. We investigated 40 inpatients with already diagnosed relapsing remitting MS and group of 90 healthy controls. Results. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient indicated very high internal consistency for all domains of SF–36 questionnaire ranging from 0.79 to 0.962. All indicators of physical and mental QoL significantly differed between the groups with lower rating in multiple sclerosis group. The correlation of all domains indicated positive direction. Estimated correlation between Mental and Physical Health Measures was medium strong (r=0,695, p<0,001). Conclusions. The survey showed that compare to control group respondents of MS group significantly poorer evaluated Physical and Mental QoL (p<0.001). Impairment of any separated QoL domain had influenced the whole QoL. Changes of mental life domains significantly more influenced physical QoL, however, changes in physical QoL domains didn’t show such significant influence into mental QoL changes.
