Abstract: The present article pretends to show the results of a review about the perspectives of citizenship education that have been dynamized in the school context -basic and middle school- in Colombia, taking into account some historical milestones that have impacted and marked some particular periods and dynamics of the school scenario in the last decades. Dissertation that is developed through a descriptive process that yields as a result, the state of the art of the approached problematic; a discourse that becomes relevant in view of the social, political and cultural situations that the country is currently experiencing. Thus, it is pertinent to seek meanings from the role played by the school in the social structure, highlighting other queries on citizenship formation and the way in which this phenomenon has impacted the educational context. The structure of this article is based on a hermeneutic epistemological posture, initially showing a contextualization phase that defines the path to be followed throughout its construction, followed by an analytical phase to classify the information, to finally reach an interpretative phase, marked by the findings unveiled, bearing in mind at each moment, encounters and misunderstandings that may lead to a global understanding of the subject matter in question. This overview allows us to observe and read how the school has been recognized at different times as a favorable scenario for the implementation of a wide range of processes of training, reflection and participation of the subjects, with the intention of providing inputs for a better being and living together, in addition to calling for the co-responsibility of the different school actors, to participate in order to jointly build better practices that aim at a better life in community.
