    • Abstract:
The objective of the mission was the recovery of GLS geolocalizers two years after their deployment on wedge-tailed shearwaters Ardenna pacifica from the Temrock colony in New Caledonia. Approximately three quarters of the burrows inventoried in March 2014 were still active in March 2016; The other burrows had vanished (collapsed, or their entrance buried under sand, or covered with a thick layer of dead leaves). Apart from a few exceptions, the birds from the vanished burrows were not recaptured during the mission. Twenty-nine banded birds from 18 different burrows were recaptured in their immediate vicinity. Five of these birds still carried their GLS, which was recovered, and two birds had lost it. Recordings of two of the GLS covered the two wintering seasons of 2014 and 2015. For these two birds, the wintering areas were distinct from one wintering season to the next. In total, out of 56 birds banded at the end of season 1 (March 2014), 36 were recaptured during one of the two following seasons (November 2014, March 2016). Out of 30 birds initially fitted with GLS, 8 were recaptured at the beginning of breeding season 2 and seven others at the end of breeding eason 3. Of the 20 banded birds that have not yet been recaptured, 15 had been equipped with a GLS. This proportion is higher than expected (χ2 test; P <0.05). At least three species of Procellariidae (wedge-tailed shearwater, black-winged petrel, Tahiti petrel) have been recorded from the Temrock site. With the touristical development of the area, this breeding colony is increasingly under threat.
