    • Abstract:
Environmental Education (EE) in schools plays a fundamental role in shaping sensitized citizens who are engaged with environmental issues. In Brazil, despite the recognition of EE's importance, its implementation within the school context still faces several challenges. In this scenario, this study analyzes the contributions of publications on school EE in the Journal of Research in Environmental Education (REVIPEA) from 2017 to 2023. This research adopts a qualitative approach, grounded in theoretical-methodological assumptions that combine bibliographic research and categorical content analysis. The analysis of the publications reveals that the majority of research focuses on Elementary Education (36.36%). Furthermore, the predominant methodological approaches are qualitative (36.36%), while 81.8% did not provide details regarding the methodology applied. Data collection techniques mainly include bibliographic research and questionnaires, both utilized in 33.34% of the studies. It was also found that 54.54% of the studies did not clearly specify the data analysis technique used. The most common teaching modalities are practical classes, accounting for 18.75% of the total. However, 25% of the analyzed studies did not mention any teaching modality. Additionally, many articles fail to detail pedagogical practices, indicating the need for greater clarity and diversity in the methodologies employed. The macro-pragmatic trend is the most discussed in our articles (45.46%), reflecting an orientation towards sustainable development. Environmental or socio-environmental sustainability was predominant, appearing in 50.02% of the works. In conclusion, despite the advances in EE within the Brazilian school context, there are gaps that need to be addressed to strengthen this practice, as it is often approached superficially in schools. It is also essential for authors to adopt greater clarity and methodological rigor in their research, ensuring reliable and replicable results, which will contribute to the advancement of ...
