Abstract: Alfred is a 61-year-old retired computer engineer, who now cultivates medicinal plants. He was raised Catholic. One of thirteen siblings, he grew up in poverty and was often hungry. As an adult, he became an alcoholic. When he met the missionaries, his family protested about the evil Latter-day Saint Church. His wife and daughters have never joined and he wonders if this is because of his temper. He is currently experiencing legal problems over a land scam and says he may go to jail, but he trusts in God. He is devoted to the Book of Mormon and stories about Ammon’s courage and Nephi’s obedience. He believes the Church will continue to grow in Madagascar. He also believes in racial equality and touts the benefits of physical labor.
