Abstract: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is considered by the DSM-V ( 2014 ) neuro (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) as a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social interaction and in communication and by repetitive behaviors. Therefore, the objective of this work is to understand how the process of psychic development of children diagnosed on the autism spectrum occurs in the formal and non-formal contexts and how educational spaces can contribute to a better development of psychic functions. Given the exposed theme, a lack of academic materials on the topic was found. Therefore, this article aims to question, in the light of Historical-Cultural Theory, how the historical process of language and correct interventions lead to the development of speech and thought in autistic children. To this end, research carried out by Vygostky, Luria and Martins was used as a theoretical basis. The study will be developed through bibliographical research and a report of the student’s experience regarding the work carried out in a specialized non-formal institution.
