      The constant need of the student to feel competent, in order to accomplish their own interests and challenges, illustrates the importance of determining the factors and elements that trigger the appearance of intrinsic motivation in the meaningful learning of mathematics. In particular, this research article determined the relationships that identify the presence of factors corresponding to intrinsic motivation and significant learning of the common factor, in eighth grade students at an educational institution in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. For this purpose, this document shows a case study, of a descriptive-explanatory type, with a mixed approach, which was carried out with primary sources obtained from interviews with teachers and students, in combination with the application of a test of knowledge about the use of the common factor. The results showed that in the teaching of the common factor, teachers adapt students to study in exchange for a score (an external reward). This inhibits the constant feedback between intrinsic motivation and the development of skills in the use of the common factor, since performing higher level exercises requires more concentration and determination. ; Teniendo en cuenta que existe una necesidad constante en el estudiante de sentirse competente para llevar a cabo intereses propios y desafíos, es importante determinar los factores y los elementos que desencadenan la aparición de la motivación intrínseca, particularmente en el aprendizaje significativo de las matemáticas. En este artículo de investigación se determinaron las relaciones que demuestran la presencia de la motivación intrínseca y el aprendizaje significativo del factor común en estudiantes de octavo grado de una institución educativa de Santiago de Cali, Colombia.
