Abstract: The present research aims at investigating the use of Facebook, the social network, through a closed group, as a possibility to improve teaching, more specifically in terms of rational numbers, considering this content as a contribution to develop the thinking of the seventh grade students in Middle School. Based on the fact that Facebook is a very popular social network in Brazil, an action research was developed in a public school in the city of Canguçu, where the closed group on this social network served as a Virtual Learning Environment, called F@ceMAT, where videos, images, texts, didactic games, learning objects, problem situations, researches, and challenges were posted. Thus, a variety of activities was sought, prioritizing researches, helping the students to read, comprehend, elaborate, calculate, reformulate, in order to provide interaction between peers: student and teacher, student and student, and thus, develop the thinking. F@ceMAT, the so-called Facebook group was considered favorable to learning in the students' opinion, and it was also proved through the results and evidences of greater participation and achievement described in the present dissertation ; Sem bolsa ; Esta pesquisa buscou investigar o uso do Facebook, através de um grupo fechado, como possibilidade para potencializar o ensino dos números racionais, considerando este conteúdo um aporte para desenvolver o pensar dos alunos do sétimo ano do Ensino Fundamental.
