Preservation of Chinese Benteng Cultural Identity Amid Modernization: Case Study at the Chinese Benteng Studies Center in Tangerang ; Pelestarian Identitas Budaya Tionghoa Benteng di Tengah Modernisasi : (Studi Kasus di Pusat Kajian Tionghoa Benteng Tangerang)

This research aims to explore the efforts to preserve the cultural identity of the Chinese Benteng community amid the rapid wave of modernization, focusing on activities conducted by the Chinese Benteng Studies Center in Tangerang. A qualitative approach with a case study method is employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the strategies and challenges faced in maintaining this cultural heritage. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the study center's management, members of the Chinese Benteng community, and the general public involved in cultural preservation. Participatory observation was also conducted during various activities organized by the study center, along with the collection of documents in the form of archives, photos, videos, and related publications. The research findings indicate that there are ten efforts made by the Chinese Benteng ethnic community to preserve their culture, namely: (a) Marriage, (b) Language, (c) Culinary traditions, (d) Participation in local social and religious activities, (e) Education, (f) Active involvement in the local economy, (g) Arts and culture, (h) Engagement in social and community organizations, (i) Customs and traditions, (j) Attitudes of openness and mutual respect. This study makes a significant contribution to the understanding of cultural preservation amid modernization and provides practical recommendations for stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of cultural heritage. ; Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi upaya pelestarian identitas budaya Tionghoa Benteng di tengah arus modernisasi yang kian pesat, dengan fokus pada kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh Pusat Kajian Tionghoa Benteng di Tangerang.
