Droite française, fascisme italien : influences croisées sur la Garde de Fer

International audience ; The fascism of the Legion of Saint Michael Archangel presents a few atypical features regarding to the great German and Italian models which may compare it to the Action Française. Rooted in an agrarian country, it was compelled to adopt a more traditional – monarchical and religious – stance, in order to touch rural masses, hard to mobilize politically. Furthermore, the prestige of the French nationalism after the victory had attracted young Romanian nationalists in the circle of Charles Maurras. The comparison between the Action Française and the Legionary Movement, and the analysis of their relations, drive to the conclusion of their divergence. The historiography of the traditional or reactionary rightist groups is interested in their ideas and organisation, more or less adapted to the modernity, whereas the fascism specialists direct towards a cultural approach of the “new consensus”, which stresses the radical break off of ideologies close to irrational political religions, with revolutionary practices, modernist and totalitarian aspirations, with militants obedient to charismatic young leaders. Last but not least, let us remind the divergence upon the pro-German orientation of the Legion to which the Action Française was totally hostile. ; Le fascisme de la Légion de l'Archange Michel / Garde de fer présente un certain nombre de traits atypiques par rapport aux grands modèles italien et allemand qui peuvent la rapprocher de l'Action Française. Prenant racine dans un pays agricole, elle était obligée d'adopter des éléments plus traditionnels, monarchiques et chrétiens, pour toucher des masses rurales difficiles à politiser. Par ailleurs, le prestige du nationalisme français au lendemain de la victoire avait attiré des jeunes nationalistes roumains dans l'orbite de Charles Maurras. Comparer l'Action Française et le Mouvement légionnaire et étudier leurs relations aboutit néanmoins à un constat de divergence.
