Abstract: Kreditna kartica je sredstvo plaćanja koje u pravilu izdaje banka, no može biti izdana i od strane nebankovne organizacije, a njihovo korištenje uređeno je Zakonom o platnom prometu. Cilj kreditne kartice je omogućavanje bezgotovinskog plaćanja i kratkoročnog kredita koji će korisniku osigurati da plati sve željene proizvode i usluge. Ona predstavlja jedan od najjednostavnijih, ali ujedno i najsigurnijih načina plaćanja koji je prihvaćen na globalnoj razini, a u turizmu je, odnosno u hotelskim i ugostiteljskim poduzećima, najčešće ponuđen oblik plaćanja. Potražnja za kreditnim karticama u konstantnom je porastu, pa tako kreditne kartice zamjenjuju gotovinsko plaćanje kao primarni način plaćanja. Ovaj rad nastoji objasniti ulogu kreditne kartice kao globalnog sredstva plaćanja u turizmu, sve karakteristike koje jedna kreditna kartica ima, te pogodnosti koje njezino korištenje donosi turistima, ali i svim ostalim korisnicima. ; Credit card is a means of payment that is usually issued by a bank, but it can also be issued by a non-bank organization, and their use is regulated by the Act on Payment Transactions. The purpose of the credit card is to enable cashless payment and short-term credit that will ensure the user pays for all desired products and services. It represents one of the simplest, but at the same time the most secure payment method that is accepted on a global level, and in tourism, that is, in hotel and hospitality companies, it is the most often offered form of payment. Demand for credit cards is constantly increasing, therefore the credit cards are replacing cash payments as the primary payment method. This paper tries to explain the role of the credit card as a global means of payment in tourism, all the characteristics that a credit card has, and the benefits that its use brings to tourists, as well as to all other users.
