Abstract: The evaluation of higher education has become an important management tool, as the knowledge and outcomes generated from evaluative processes can support decision- making and the adoption of measures aimed at academic and institutional improvement, particularly since the establishment of the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes) in 2004. The aim of the article is to analyze how the results obtained in the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) by undergraduate courses in Letters, Mathematics, Biology, Physical Education, and Pedagogy at the University of Brasilia (UnB), in the years 2011, 2014, and 2017, were utilized by the management of UnB and contributed to institutional development. This is an exploratory study, of qualitative nature, grounded in literature review and analysis of Institutional Development Plans (PDIs), institutional self-assessment reports, planning manuals, and interviews conducted with course coordinators and university management member. By adopting the studies of New Public Management (NPM) as a theoretical framework, the research revealed that Enade has been regarded as part of a more regulatory evaluative process rather than formative. However, in the researched reality, the Exam has gradually become one of the references for actions aimed at improving academic and institutional quality. The study allowed us to conclude that the utilization of Enade results, when coupled with institutional evaluation practices, can support decision-making, thereby contributing to the advancement of both the courses and the institution.
