Abstract: A subject of the Master's (research) thesis has been selected in order to go deeper into the opportunities of development of the results of sustainable development and added value in connection with recreational architecture in Likėnai. It is hypothesizes in the thesis that sustainable development of architecture in Likėnai settlement could bring closer the town‘s vision to become the recreational centre of the northern Lithuania. Therefore the following objective has been set: to analyse the opportunities of recreational development of Rehabilitation Hospital of Likėnai covering the contexts of regional tourism strategy and the town‘s natural, social-cultural and architectural values by developing suggestions and recommendations. To achieve the set objective the descriptive and comparative study method is used. The method is handy to analyse a significance of recreational architecture, its advantage, components and historical development of Likėnai settlement. An interview survey method has been selected for the second part of the study, i.e. authorial qualitative social research. Suggestions and recommendations are presented in the final part. The fact that sustainable architecture, regionalism and atmosphere conform to one of the most suggestible forms (combinations) in the recreational architecture suitable for development in aforesaid territory has been clarified in the authorial research. However community participation in united consolidation of local functions and its originality are poor. It has been revealed in the research that it is very important to enshrine natural resources in Likėnai territory by ensuring their more efficient use, but preventing their depletion. The results of the interview survey showed that a quality of architecture, the relation of the local community both with the territory and Rehabilitation Hospital of Likėnai and social-economic basis are relevant in the locality.
