    • Abstract:
Scientific publishing is a crucial part of academic work and holds an importance for institutions and researchers in Sweden. This bachelor thesis examines differences in publications patterns in the humanities and if the publication patterns relate to the indicators rewarded by the allocation models. A comparison is made between the University of Gothenburg and Lund university. The time frame is 2013-2022. The local university publication databases were used to source the empirical data. Social epistemology and academic territories were used to analyze the results. The result shows similar patterns for both universities, with a greater change in Gothenburg for both publication types and language. Publications in journal articles and books increase as well as publications in English. Publications in book chapters are decreasing and so are publications in other languages than English. The most common publication type in Gothenburg is book chapter, both in 2013 and in 2022. In Lund and Sweden overall, book chapter was the most common publication type 2013 however in 2022 it was journal article. The study has some shortcomings in terms of differences in indexing, as well as a lack of data regarding institutions in Lund university. Both universities show a change in publication patterns towards a compliance with the rewarded indicators in the allocation models, although both universities still have a large share of publications in book chapters and in Swedish, which is not as highly rewarded. However, it is not possible to determine if the changes are due to the allocation models.
