Abstract: Predmet ovog rada je primjena matematike u pomorstvu, odnosno matematika kao korisno oruđe u rukama pomorca. Matematika se još od davnina koristi u brojnim tehničkim granama, pa tako i u pomorstvu. Stoga se može reći da se matematika i pomorstvo prate kroz povijest. Razvoj matematike utjecao je na razvoj samog pomorstva i svih grana vezanih za tu djelatnost. Još od prvih civilizacija čovjek je znao da mu more može poslužiti kao izvor hrane i način da se poveže i trguje između dva mjesta na Zemlji. Korisnost matematike u pomorstvu se može promatrati kroz primjenu trigonometrije i geometrije u terestričkoj i astronomskoj navigaciji, te u proračunima vezanim za prijevoz tereta i stabilitet broda. ; The subject of this work is the application of mathematics in maritime science, i.e. mathematics as a useful tool in the hands of seafarers. Mathematics has been used in many technical fields since ancient times, even in maritime science. Therefore, it can be said that mathematics and maritime affairs are accompanied through history. The development of mathematics has influenced the development of seafaring and all branches related to this activity. Even since the first attempts, the man knew that sea could serve as a source of food and a way to connect and trade between two places on Earth. The use of mathematics in seamanship can be observed through the application of trigonometry and geometry in terrestrial and astronomical navigation, and in calculations related to the cargo transport and stability of the ship.
