    • Abstract:
Additive manufacturing (AM) has become popular due to the customization of products and the consumption of fewer materials than conventional processes; however, it requires a lot of energy. In order to reduce the consumption of grid energy required by an AM system, in this work an AM system that uses photovoltaic energy has been developed. Since the solar hours in a geographical point are limited, as the sun intensity is variable, to avoid manufacturing stoppages, the developed AM system also consumes grid energy, not only photovoltaic solar energy. However, to minimize grid power consumption, print jobs are categorized as urgent, for which grid power will be used when renewable runs out, and nonurgent. The control and visualization of system parameters is carried out by sensors that send data to the ThingSpeak platform. Remote activation is done using SONOFF devices, the Octoprint system, Telegram plugins, IFTTT and Amazon Alexa. In this work it has been verified that the deployed AM system would allow, in a city with similar climatic conditions to Riobamba (Ecuador), to carry out a printing job of 4 hours consuming only photovoltaic energy , reducing up to 100% of the grid power consumption.
