La costa atlántica de la actual Colombia en las cartografías lusitano-germánica e iberoitálica del primer cuarto del siglo XVI ; Current Colombia’s Atlantic Coast in Lusitanian – german and iberian – italic cartographies from the first quarter of XVI Century

Mediante el estudio de distintas fuentes primarias publicadas entre 1498 y 1519, en este artículo se hace un recuento de los primeros reconocimientos castellanos del litoral norte de la actual Colombia, abordando el proceso a lo largo del cual se fue imponiendo sobre su territorio una nueva toponimia, y se fueron dibujando los primeros perfiles costeros o figuras de la tierra, las cuales eran reproducidas, ensambladas e incorporadas en otras cartas de marear. Posteriormente, los detalles de esta región en los mapas producidos en Europa durante el primer cuarto del siglo XVI son expuestos y analizados en sus perfiles y topónimos, comparando aquellos que corresponden al modelo lusitano-germánico con los que agrupamos bajo la categoría de cartografía ibero-itálica. ; Through the study of different primary sources between 1498 and 1519, this article recounts the first Castilian explorations ofthe northern coast of present – day Colombia Addressing the process through which a new toponymy was imposed on its territory,and the first coastal profiles or figures of the land were drawn, being then reproduced, assembled and incorporated into other charts. Subsequently, the details of this region in the maps produced in Europe during the first quarter of the 16th century are exposed and analyzed in their profiles and place names, comparing those that correspond to the Lusitano - Germanic model, with those which we group under the category of Ibero – Italic cartography.
